13 Jul, 2023, Discover Early Years

Is your little one heading off to preschool soon? Don't worry, we've got you covered! Here's an easy-to-follow guide to help your Little Discoverer get ready for the big adventure ahead!

6 – 8 months before the start date: Explore, Visit, and Enrol

It's never too early to start thinking about preschool options! There are so many amazing choices out there, from Montessori to forest schools, play-based schools, and academic-focused schools. Take your time to research and visit a variety of preschools to determine which one suits your child's unique personality and needs.

Once you've narrowed down your top choices, schedule a visit with your little one. Most preschools offer trial classes too, that’s why it’s important to plan ahead and give your child plenty of time to explore and play at the preschools you're considering.

And when you find the perfect preschool, don't wait to secure your spot! Demand for preschool spots is at its all-time high, so act fast!

3 - 6 months before the start date: Encourage Independence and Routine

As the big day approaches, it's important to help your child prepare emotionally for this big milestone. Encourage independence by letting your child do things on their own, such as getting dressed and using the bathroom. This will boost their confidence and help them feel more confident and self-assured.

Establishing a daily routine will also help your child understand what to expect at preschool. Plan out playtime, snack time, nap time, and other activities to give your child a sense of structure and routine. Signing your child up for unaccompanied short classes can help them get used to learning and playing with others in a group setting. Check out our preschool preparatory classes here.

1 – 3 months before the start date: Have Fun and Learn!

As the big day draws near, focus on having fun and strengthening your child's early literacy and numeracy skills. Play games, read stories, and sing songs to help your child feel confident and excited about learning. This will help them transition into preschool with ease and excitement!

With this guide, you and your Little Discoverer will be well-prepared for the wonderful world of preschool!
